Shot over eight years, Queens of Concrete chronicles the journey from childhood to adulthood and the moments that define us. It’s 2016 and Hayley (14), Ava (13) and Charlotte (9) are following their dreams to qualify for the first ever Australian Olympic skateboarding team for the 2020 games.  

 

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director Eliza Cox.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director Mark Leonard Winter discussing the making of the film.

Cats of the Gokogu Shrine

Gokogu is a small, ancient Shinto shrine in Ushimado, Japan. Home to dozens of street cats, it is also known as Cat Shrine. Some people visit Gokogu to photograph and feed the freely roaming stray cats. But some residents complain about the waste the cats leave around. Gokogu looks peaceful on the surface, but it is also the epicenter of a sensitive issue that divides the local community.   

A gorgeous observational portrait of cats and men directed by one of the most respected Japanese documentary filmmakers, Kazuhiro Sôda.
