Penguin Bloom

A Starlight Outdoor Screening

Bangalow Showground
Saturday 16 January 2021 | 8.00 pm

Australia | 2020 | 95 mins
DIRECTED by Glendyn Ivin
STARRING Naomi Watts, Andrew Lincoln, Rachel House, Jacki Weaver, Gia Carides and Leeanna Walsman.
Rated: PG

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, the film tells the story of Sam Bloom (Academy Award® nominated Naomi Watts) a young mother whose world is turned upside down after a shocking, near-fatal accident leaves her paralyzed.

Sam’s husband, (Andrew Lincoln), her three young boys and her mother (Academy Award® nominated Jacki Weaver), are struggling to adjust to their new situation when an unlikely ally enters their world in the form of an injured baby magpie they name Penguin.

The bird’s arrival is a welcome distraction for the Bloom family, eventually making a profound difference on Sam’s life, teaching her how to live again.

“The Bloom family’s willingness to share their story could boost your spirits and serve as a very effective reminder of what we can overcome with the people we love.”

We are so excited to have our story unfold on the big screen, outdoors at the Bangalow Film Festival in partnership with Byron Writers Festival. We were actually at Byron Writers Festival in 2016 when we found out the film had been given the green light for production, so we can’t think of a more perfect event for one of the first screenings in the Northern Rivers. Thanks, Ben, Lyn and Christian for including us in your very first festival.
