“The Rooster navigates its meditation on masculinity with dark humour and uncomfortable fragility” – The AU Review

When the body of his oldest friend is found buried in a shallow grave, Dan (Phoenix Raei), a small-town cop, seeks answers from the volatile Hermit (Hugo Weaving) who may have been the last person to see his friend alive.

This award-winning drama, part murder mystery part intimate portrait of broken masculinity, features a towering Hugo Weaving in the role of Hermit. It also marks the directorial debut of actor Mark Leonard Winter.

The movie went to win several prestigious awards, including Best Direction in a Debut Feature Film by the Australian Directors Guild, and an AACTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for Hugo Weaving.
